The Long Beach Unified School District has received a $125,000 grant from a private, nonprofit organization to help improve district middle schools.

Under the grant, teachers and administrators from DeMille, Lindbergh and Stanford middle schools will visit model-school programs, attend national conferences and organize local committee meetings. Their goals include implementing algebra courses and improved counseling services at the 17 district middle schools.

“Basically, in student achievement we aren’t doing the job we should be doing, and this grant will help us investigate the different variety of programs out there,” said Linda Moore, a participating administrator.
