The public is invited to attend a candlelight vigil Saturday night at Ventura’s Plaza Park to raise awareness about AIDS and to remember those who have died, officials said.

The vigil will begin at 7 p.m. at the park and will be followed by a three-mile march east to the Ventura County Alcohol and Drug Programs Special Projects office at 955 E. Thompson Blvd.

Wrong distance--An article Thursday incorrectly reported the distance of a walk Saturday night from Ventura’s Plaza Park to raise awareness about AIDS. The walk will actually cover three blocks.

AIDS Care of Ventura County is sponsoring the vigil and a reception that will be held at the county office after the procession, said spokesman Cam Keep. AIDS Care provides information and support for people with acquired immune deficiency syndrome and those infected with HIV, the virus that causes the fatal disease.

A total of 247 people in Ventura County have been treated for AIDS, Keep said. Of those, 147 have died.
