Parliament Fires Ukraine Cabinet
The Ukrainian Parliament voted Thursday to fire the entire government of the former Soviet republic.
By an overwhelming 295 to 6, it adopted a no-confidence motion that, under the Ukrainian constitution, forces the Cabinet to resign.
The decision came a day after the resignation of Prime Minister Vitold Fokin, widely blamed for delaying free-market reform and plunging Ukraine into deep economic crisis.
Fokin’s resignation was seen as an attempt to avert a full-blown political crisis. But the opposition, scenting blood, immediately demanded that the whole government go with him.
