All that Noise Takes Fun From Football

Football season is back with us once more, and once more we will have to put up with the high-fiving and stupid victory celebrations of the players on the field. Also, once again we will have to suffer through the high-decibel screaming of the hometown rooters in the stands--the supposed 12th man.

Something should be done about the distractions. The most effective method is the penalty against the offenders. Unsportsmanlike conduct comes immediately to mind. The hometown rooters drowning out the opponents’ signals should draw at least a five-yard penalty for delay of game. Many a game has been lost by the visiting team because of this deplorable conduct.

The conduct of the players on the field is going to become unbearable. Does a sack or a tackle for no gain call for all of that showboating? Isn’t that what the defense is supposed to do? Conduct on the field and in the stands becomes more disgusting with every game--college and pro. It’s not as much fun anymore.
