And She Thought Murphy Had Labor Pains

Share

I enjoyed the articles on English and “Murphy Brown.” Dan Quayle missed the whole point in attacking the TV comedy. Here is the lesson he missed:

PART I:

Fiction --not true. Actress --someone who plays a role. Candice Bergen --a wife and mother who plays a fictional character. Fictional character --a make-believe person such as Murphy Brown or Mickey Mouse.

PART II:

Reality --what is true. Family --husband (58), wife (39) and four kids (ages 2-12). Job --husband, projectionist; wife, housewife. Laid off --last day of work (Sept. 24). Unemployment insurance --$230 a week . Future --very bleak. Vote --to make a decision during election. Lame-duck President --George Bush in November. Also see: reality.

Whatever the show has to say has been billed as “Murphy’s Revenge.” The Lang family’s revenge will be on a Tuesday in November.
