Temple City : Deputies’ Civil Trial Will Restart With New Jurors

Share

A mistrial was declared last week in a civil suit against three Temple Station sheriff’s deputies. Because of statements made by the deputies’ attorney while jurors were being selected, the process will restart Tuesday with a new group of prospective jurors.

The suit, being heard in Alhambra Municipal Court due to overcrowding at nearby Pasadena Superior Court, was filed by Corin Maldonado, 39, of San Gabriel. She claims she was beaten by three deputies on June 14, 1987, when they were called to Rosemead to break up an argument between her and her twin sister, Lorin Diaz.

Maldonado, a former X-ray technician, said injuries she received during the beating forced her to change her line of work. The attorney representing the deputies denies the allegations. He said deputies used force because Maldonado was violent.
