Thompson Has Five Field Goals as Oregon Beats Arizona State
Tommy Thompson, Oregon’s barefoot kicker, tied a school record with five field goals as the Ducks beat Arizona State, 30-20, Saturday in a Pacific 10 Conference game.
Turnovers set up two Sun Devil touchdowns in the second quarter and two second-half scores for Oregon, which won its third in a row to improve to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
Two other Oregon scoring drives were aided by personal fouls against Arizona State (1-3, 0-2).
Thompson kicked one field goal from 51 yards, two from 39 and two from 36 to tie a school record set by Kirk Dennis against Washington State in 1988.
After going ahead 19-14 with 6:45 to play in the third quarter, the Ducks scored a touchdown and a two-point conversion two plays after recovering a fumble at the Sun Devil 17.
