KNOWING OUR SELVES
Who gives postmodern psychologists the right to spuriously redefine the world self ? Isn’t setting an alarm to wake yourself in the morning more straightforwardly explained by a continuity, not a discontinuity, of self?
Because it is living and in process, the self experiences changing states of need, motivation and emotion. But its existence is intelligible. The self is defined by its boundaries: consistent values expressed by an individual’s thoughts, words and actions. Those boundaries endure and protect the development of the person within.
