IBM to Launch Notebook Computers: International Business Machines Corp. will launch three notebook computers today in an effort to close a gap in its product line. The company entered the fast-growing notebook-computer market last March, when it unveiled two notebooks for its PS/2 line, each weighing 6.2 pounds. The new computers, called ThinkPads, have an improved color display, a bigger screen and a novel pointing device. Instead of a “mouse” hanging off the computers’ side, making it awkward to use in tight spaces such as airplanes, ThinkPads will have a tiny device located inside the keyboard and positioned under the middle, or home, keys.
