Brett Favre dominated the statistical battle, but Chris Miller won the game.

Miller completed 16 of 26 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns, while Favre, his former understudy, was 33 of 43 for 276 yards but only one touchdown, and the Atlanta Falcons beat the Green Bay Packers, 24-10, Sunday.

“They banged me up a little, but nothing major,” said Favre, a backup to Miller last season who was traded to the Packers for a draft choice in February. “Our game plan was to throw it short and keep their offense off the field.”

Favre filled the Georgia Dome with short passes that enabled the Packers (2-3) to control the ball seven minutes longer than the Falcons (2-3).

“Favre played a heck of a game and it was good to see him do well,” Miller said.

The difference came at payoff time.

Two of Miller’s three touchdowns went to Andre Rison, as Atlanta ended a three-game losing streak.

“We matched up our formations, but I was disappointed we let Favre escape so much,” Atlanta Coach Jerry Glanville said.

“You have to give credit to Favre. He looks like he lost 15 pounds and he looks stronger and it showed today. He’s going to be a good one.”

The Packers cut Atlanta’s lead to 17-10 on the first play of the fourth quarter. Five minutes later, Miller completed five of seven passes during an 86-yard drive that put the game out of reach. Rison made the scoring reception in the deep left corner with 6:07 left.

Miller’s scoring passes to Rison covered 10 and 21 yards. He also threw a two-yard scoring pass to Mike Pritchard.

“The Falcons have a tremendous passing attack,” Packer Coach Mike Holmgren said. “It is frightening when they get it going.”
