SIMI VALLEY : Child-Safe Day Planned at Plaza

Share

Mountain Gate Plaza, a shopping center in Simi Valley, will fingerprint and videotape children Saturday as part of the center’s third annual Child-Safe Day activities.

The free event will take place from noon to 3 p.m. at the center at 1st Street and Los Angeles Avenue.

A videotaping company will shoot brief footage of children up to age 18 to provide the family with a record of the child’s appearance, height and voice, which can be used if the youngster is lost or abducted. The footage of the child will be placed at the end of a free safety video.

Representatives of the Simi Valley Police Department and California Highway Patrol will also be at the center to offer information on home security, personal safety and drug abuse.

Organizers of the event said it was scheduled to alert parents to safety concerns before Halloween and the holiday shopping season. More than 600 children have been fingerprinted and videotaped at previous Child-Safe Days, Mountain Gate representatives said.
