Edison High School Principal Brian Garland has been appointed chairman of a statewide committee of secondary school principals, representing more than 1,000 public high schools in California.

Garland, also president of the Huntington Beach City School District Board of Trustees, will assume his new duties immediately.

Garland’s group, which includes 18 high school principals, is a standing committee of the Assn. of California School Administrators.

His committee will focus attention on the high school campuses and on identifying and solving problems and supporting school principals, he said. “We’ll take positions and write papers and submit them,” he said.

Garland has been principal at Edison for five years and has been employed in the Huntington Beach Union High School District for 23 years, starting as a history teacher at Edison.

He has served on the elementary school district Board of Trustees, on and off, for 11 years, beginning in 1975.
