PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : CHARGERS : Ross Says Chargers Not Out of Race

The Denver Broncos lead the AFC West Division with a 4-1 mark, but Coach Bobby Ross said Tuesday the 1-4 Chargers remain very much in the title hunt.

“I haven’t seen the L.A. Raiders, of course to be able to say who is the best football team, but it looks to me like there’s still a chance on the part of everybody, including ourselves,” Ross said. “I would think we have a shot; I think everybody would. I think it’s kind of an equal race, of course Denver’s ahead and Kansas City is a step behind in the win-loss (column), but it’s wide open.”

Call it wishful thinking, but then who knows?

The Broncos still have road games in Washington, Buffalo, Kansas City and San Diego and must play the Giants and Cowboys at home.

The Chiefs entertain the red-hot Eagles Sunday before taking to the road for games with the Cowboys, Giants and Raiders. The Chiefs will also play the Redskins and Broncos in Arrowhead Stadium.

The Chargers, meanwhile, do not have to play the likes of Washington, Buffalo, Dallas or Philadelphia. They get the Colts in two of their next three assignments, and then have dates with the Cardinals, Bucs, Bengals, Browns, Seahawks and Raiders.

Running back Ronnie Harmon underwent a minor medical procedure on his knee Monday, but Ross said he’s expected to be ready for practice today.

Delton Hall, the Chargers’ key acquisition in Plan B free agency, has been a major disappointment to date. However, Ross had praise for his performance against Seattle.

“Delton Hall got his first considerable action and did a good job,” Ross said. “We were pleased with the way he played.”
