Rug Liner Puts Stop to Slips, Slides

Share

Hug-a-Rug does just what its name suggests--it is a liner that keeps area rugs from slipping on hardwood, tile or linoleum floors or from bunching up on carpets.

Because of their tendency to slide on highly polished floors, scatter rugs can create one of the most common safety hazards in the home, causing injuries from accidental slips and falls.

There are two models of Hug-a-Rug for floors. Both are made of an open-weave, vinyl-coated polyester that will not mark hard surfaces. The open construction also improves air circulation under rugs. Ever-Grip, the deluxe version, includes more than 3,200 “grippers” per square foot to hold rugs even more securely.

Hug-a-Rug for carpeted floors is made from 100% polyester felt impregnated with a special dry adhesive.

Hug-a-Rugs for wood flooring or carpet can be trimmed to fit any size rug, and come in several sizes, with prices varying by size and model. Floor runners are also available.

Standard Hug-a-Rugs for hard-surface floors range from 3 by 5 feet ($20) to 10 by 14 feet ($110). Hug-a-Rug Ever-Grip: 3 by 5 feet ($25) to 10 by 14 feet ($189). Hug-a-Rug for carpeted floors: 3 by 5 feet ($20) to 9 by 12 feet ($99).

Hug-a-Rugs can be ordered from Trevko Direct Marketing, P.O. Box 297, Dept. OMC, Rockland, Del. 19732; (302) 594-0637.

Pacifier Warns Parents of Fever

Pacifier Plus is an innovative baby product that not only provides pacifying and gum exercise but tells you when the baby has a fever.

Inside the nipple of the pacifier is a glycerin dot which is green when the baby’s temperature is normal, but turns black when his or her temperature rises to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The pacifier comes in a standard nipple or orthodontic design, and is made of clear, nontoxic vinyl. Its manufacturer recommends using a regular thermometer as soon as the pacifier indicates the infant has a fever.

Radio for Tuning From the Hip

If you wear fanny packs and like listening to music while you’re walking, jogging or riding a bike, consider Hiptunes, a lightweight fanny pack with a built-in AM-FM radio.

Hiptunes comes in three colors--hot pink, black and purple nylon--and the controls are on the outside of the pack, so stations can easily be tuned in and volume adjusted.

The radio, which is inside a zippered pouch, has a flap on top so the two AA batteries (not included) can be changed easily. Headset wires also are stored in the pouch when you’re not using them. The fanny pack has separate zippered compartments in the front and back and an adjustable waistband.

Hiptunes ($26.95 including shipping and handling) is available from Larry Paul Enterprises, 11693 San Vicente Blvd., Suite 426, Los Angeles, Calif. 90049; (310) 475-1896.
