Share

The City Council on Tuesday awarded a $419,954 contract to Cleveland Wrecking Co. of Los Angeles to demolish the 63-year-old, six-story Public Service Building at 119 N. Glendale Ave.

Demolition of the building could begin by Nov. 1 and is expected to take 90 days. The basement will be retained for the city’s emergency services headquarters, currently located in cramped quarters in the City Hall basement, Project Manager Marty Nixt said.

An expanded Civic Center plaza will be built on the site of the old building, which was replaced Sept. 28 with the opening of the adjoining four-story, $26-million Perkins Building at 141 N. Glendale Ave.
