Two men robbed a branch of Security Pacific Bank in Oxnard, marking the 79th bank robbery in Ventura County this year, authorities said.

The previous record for bank robberies in the county was 76 in 1989, FBI Supervisor Gary Auer said.

The latest robbery occurred about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday at the bank in the 600 block of North Ventura Road, according to a statement from Oxnard police.

After entering the bank, the two men handed a teller a note indicating they had a gun and a bomb, the police statement said.

They then demanded large denominations of currency.

After the teller handed them money, the suspects fled on foot.

Police had made no arrests by Wednesday afternoon.

The number of bank robberies in the county this year is already 50% higher than last year’s total of 52, Auer said.

Auer said the FBI has solved 64 of the 79 bank robberies this year.
