Events of the Coming Week

Today: Democratic Assembly candidate Roz McGrath will host a “Sock Hop to Sacramento” fund-raiser from 5 to 8 p.m. at Tommy’s Drive-In Restaurant, 596 Mobil Ave., in Camarillo. Jukebox music and an appearance by an Elvis impersonator will highlight the event, which costs $10 for adults and $5 for children. Call 987-5204 for more information.

Friday: Republican candidates for office in Ventura County will speak at the Victory ’92 Banquet sponsored by the county’s Republican Central Committee at the Harbortown Marina Resort. Scheduled speakers are Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Simi Valley), Assemblywoman Cathie Wright (R-Simi Valley), Assemblyman Tom McClintock (R-Thousand Oaks) and Assembly candidates Nao Takasugi and Lanny Ebenstein. The event begins with no-host cocktails at 6:30 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. Reservations for the $40 dinner may be made today by calling the Republican Party’s office at 389-6688.

Saturday: Voters can meet Democratic congressional candidate Anita Perez Ferguson at a 10:30 a.m. bagel brunch at a private residence at 1798 Fenmore Ave. in Camarillo. Sunday: Patricia Ireland, the president of the National Organization for Women, will attend a rally in Ventura to campaign for women candidates vying for offices representing Ventura County. The rally will be held at 7 p.m. at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Hall, 3994 E. Main St. For more information, call the Ventura-Oxnard NOW chapter at 655-5751.

Sunday: State Treasurer Kathleen Brown will be the special guest at an afternoon fund-raiser for Democratic congressional candidate Anita Perez Ferguson hosted by Ojai architect Zelma Wilson. Hors d’oeuvres and wine will be served at the event, which runs from 2 to 5 p.m. at Wilson’s home at 514 Del Norte in Ojai. For reservations, call Carol Keller at 643-9097.
