SANTA ANA : Council Approves Medical Center Plan

Share

The City Council has approved a plan to give up portions of two residential streets to make room for an FHP Inc. medical center at 1111 W. Civic Center Drive.

At its meeting Monday, the council unanimously approved the plan to give up portions of Westwood Avenue and Towner Street, which will become cul-de-sacs and will no longer connect with Civic Center Drive.

The Washington Square Neighborhood Assn. endorsed the plan, although 10th Street residents Miles and Florence Leach opposed it, saying that the closure would make traffic worse on nearby streets.

The 21,700-square-foot FHP building and a 127-space parking lot will be built in modern Mexican architecture to blend in with the surrounding area, according to a report to the council.

“It’s a good project. The neighborhood is behind it, and I think it will benefit our city,” Councilman Miguel A. Pulido Jr. said.
