FileNet Sees Revenue Leap: FileNet Corp., which makes document-processing computers, said Thursday it expects third-quarter revenue of $37.5 million, up 27% from the same period last year.

Profit, however, is expected to be up only slightly to $1.1 million, or 10 cents a share, from $1 million, or 10 cents a share.

Analysts had predicted that FileNet would report earnings of about 12 cents a share, partly because the bankruptcy filing of Wang Laboratories Inc. in August was expected to generate more sales for FileNet, Wang’s major competitor in document processing.

Ted Smith, chief executive, said that FileNet’s domestic sales were up 31% for the quarter. Sales in Germany and France were strong, he said, but those in the United Kingdom were disappointing. Because the company continued its research and development spending but did not meet internal sales targets, earnings suffered despite the revenue gain, Smith said.
