RIOT BRIEF : Chinese Restaurant Opens in Fedco
The South Pasadena-based Panda Express chain of Chinese restaurants opened the first of four restaurants in Fedco membership department stores Thursday at a Los Angeles store heavily damaged during the riots.
The company also made a joint $100,000 donation with Fedco to the Brotherhood Crusade, which plans to distribute the funds to local charities.
“This will show everyone in the community we can help rebuild L.A.,” said Panda Express President Andrew J.C. Cherng, before a crowd of 100 community leaders, politicians and company officials at the Fedco store on La Cienega Avenue.
The restaurant employs an African-American assistant manager, and most workers are minorities.
