Monrovia : ‘Cash for Trash’ Winners

Share

A new program aimed at encouraging Monrovians to recycle their household waste has paid off in the form of $50 savings bonds for two families.

In the “Cash for Trash” lottery, instituted by the city and Newco Waste Systems Inc., households are being selected randomly each month and their garbage is inspected for recyclables. The first two homes found to be recycling are awarded the bonds.

The winners of the September lottery were Mr. and Mrs. Darrell McCown and Mr. and Mrs. Salvador Sarinana. The Sarinana family requested that their bond be given to their neighbor’s 4-year-old daughter, Frances Louise Martin, who accepted the bond at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.
