A late caution flag nearly cost Jeff Gordon a victory in the All Pro Auto Parts 300 Busch Grand National race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Gordon, racing runner-up Michael Waltrip to the finish line, barely managed to avoid the wrecked car of Robert Pressley, which was part of a six-car accident in the fourth turn only five laps from the end of the 300-mile, 200-lap race.
Gordon, 21, crossed the finish line under the ninth caution flag of the day. His Ford Thunderbird averaged 120.954 m.p.h. for a race slowed by caution for 45 laps. It was the second consecutive time he has won at Charlotte.
