William Cunningham, a 6-foot-11 Temple basketball player, has been charged with trying to steal a car parked outside a dormitory.

Police said Cunningham, 18, and two other men approached David Scarpello, 26, and a friend who were sitting in a Cadillac Saturday night. The three offered to buy the car, and when told it wasn’t for sale, they said they would take it.

Scarpello and his friend fled and returned with a police officer, who saw Cunningham leaving the car. Cunningham was charged with robbery, theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy.
