Micropolis Inc. Posts $6.84-Million Profit

Micropolis Inc. posted a $6.84-million profit for its fiscal third quarter, against a year-earlier loss, but warned that “demand for several of the company’s products was lower than anticipated.”

The Chatsworth-based maker of computer data storage products said its profit in the quarter ended Sept. 25 reversed a $3.76-million loss a year earlier. Micropolis’ third-quarter sales jumped 39%, to $102.5 million from $73.5 million.

But Micropolis said the drop in demand left its third-quarter orders “below the levels of the second quarter,” and the company’s backlog as of Sept. 25 was $43 million, down from $82.5 million on June 26. Part of the backlog as of June 26 resulted from “an overall shortage of product” in the first half of this year, the company said.

For the first nine months of its fiscal year, Micropolis’ profit soared to $14.8 million from $2.63 million a year earlier, and its nine-month sales rose 16%, to $305.1 million from $263.4 million.
