Pasadena : School Site Sale Hearings

Share

Responding to complaints from a residents’ group, Pasadena School Board President Elbie J. Hickambottom announced Tuesday that the district will have two public hearings on whether to sell an old school site to Pasadena City College for use as a skills center.

Tim Price, president of the Daisy Villa Homeowners’ Assn, said more investigation and meetings are needed on disposal of the property at 3081 Foothill Blvd., formerly the district’s continuation high school.

“It is hard to imagine taking the first offer for property without having other avenues of negotiations available,” Price told Tuesday’s board meeting.

Sales price for the property, previously valued at $4.2 million, has yet to be determined. The site is rented to four tenants who pay a total of $4,500 monthly.

Hickambottom said the first hearing will be at the Oct. 27 board meeting.

The state awarded PCC $11.2 million for a new center. The present center is operating rent free in part of a former district middle school on South Oak Knoll Avenue.
