Trading Weapons for Hostages

Share

Having been held hostage by the Iranian government for 444 days, I have a very personal interest in Howard R. Teicher’s column (Opinion, Oct. 4). Teicher, as a member of the National Security Council, has to share the blame for one of the stupidest policy decisions in U.S. history--the decision to sell weapons to the Iranian government in exchange for American hostages.

There exists a very strong possibility that someday, if not already, the Hawk and Tow missiles Teicher sold to the Iranians will be used against Americans. In light of Teicher’s soon-to-be-published book, I find his comments about President Bush’s knowledge concerning the arms-for-hostages deal to be more than just a coincidence of timing. I call it self-serving publicity.
