Bettie M. Albright of Inglewood has received the Book of Golden Deeds Award from the Inglewood Exchange Club for outstanding community service. A three-year member of the Exchange Club, Albright is also a life member of the Centinela Hospital Medical Center Auxiliary, the Historical Society of Centinela Valley, and is an Inglewood parks and recreation commissioner.

Four South Bay residents will be honored Saturday at “A Salute to Cultural Diversity” at the Nordstrom South Bay Galleria store. They are David McKenna, Grace Setsuda, Oliver (Ollie) Hunt and John Homer.

McKenna, of San Pedro, is a founder of the Loyola Law School Hispanic Alumni Scholarship Foundation. He is active as a volunteer in community organizations because of his belief that “creating ownership of one’s own community builds esteem. Esteem keeps people off the streets.”

Setsuda is involved in several Gardena community organizations and has been a Girl Scout leader for 22 years. Each month, she makes 35 lunches in her home for the homeless at Alondra Park and each year, as a charter member of the Gardena Sister City Assn., Setsuda escorts youth groups to Japan.

Hunt, a retired Air Force officer, is a past president of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary Club and currently serves as a district governor in Rotary International. Through Rotary, Hunt heads an education and literacy task force helping the youth in South-Central Los Angeles.

Homer is an active member of the Employ America Business Advisory Committee. He instituted a program at the Torrance Marriott Hotel to employ mentally disabled people.

The four were selected by a coalition of educational, business, philanthropic, community and cultural leaders.

Proceeds from “A Salute to Cultural Diversity” will be shared by three nonprofit South Bay community organizations: Community Assn. of the Peninsula, Richstone Family Center and Toberman Settlement House. For more information call (310) 214-7713.
