VENTURA : Planners Approve Shopping Complex

Share

A proposal to build a shopping complex on five acres at the corner of East Main Street and Telephone Road has been approved.

The area is one of the few remaining commercial parcels in the central part of the city.

The Planning Commission on Tuesday approved plans to remodel a warehouse and build two retail buildings totaling 51,525 square feet. The developer, Main Retail Partnership, is negotiating with a Stroud’s Linen Warehouse and a Barnes & Noble Bookstore for the buildings, said John Ash, architect for the project.

A 3,200-square-foot building that houses Avis Rent-a-Car and Taft Cellular Services will be remodeled so its exterior will match the other buildings, Ash said.

Construction could begin as early as next month, and the businesses would open as early as January, Ash said.
