Countywide : OCC Tops Transfers to Cal State Schools
Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa had more students transferring to the California State University system than any other community college in the state, according to a new study.
More than 1,190 former OCC students transferred to the CSU system’s 20 campuses in the 1991-92 academic year, states a report by the university’s analytic studies office. De Anza College in Cupertino ranked second, followed by American River College in Sacramento and City College of San Francisco.
Two other Orange County colleges also ranked in the top 20, with Fullerton College placing eighth and Saddleback College coming in 19th.
Although OCC students go on to further their education elsewhere, the majority don’t travel far. First choice for most transfers is Cal State Long Beach, where 466 students went in the 1991-92 year. Cal State Fullerton is the second pick.
The current transfer numbers at OCC are consistent with what has occurred in the past. According to officials, during the past decade the community college in Costa Mesa has annually been one of the nation’s leaders in community college transfers.
