An anonymous donor advocating “random acts of kindness” followed up on a promise to give $10,000 to help a boy with a life-threatening disease.

Adrian Leach, 5, of Blue Hill is to undergo surgery this month at the University of Michigan to correct a congenital disease that puts him at risk for a heart attack or a stroke.

Benefits have been held and donation cans distributed to raise money for travel expenses and medical costs that may not be covered by Medicaid. A note found in one of the cans said: “Practice random acts of kindness and senseless beauty.” It also promised a $10,000 donation.

A week later, a Bar Harbor bank received the deposit. The donation increased the amount of contributions received so far to $23,000.
