COLLEGE FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : UCLA : Nothing Wrong With Bruins’ Defense

UCLA’s defense has given up only seven touchdowns in five games, including three on drives of 35 yards or less after turnovers. The Bruins held Stanford to its lowest passing output of the season (126 yards) in a 19-7 loss to the Cardinal last weekend. Averaging 392 yards per game in total offense, Stanford had 259 against UCLA.

Glyn Milburn’s 75-yard punt return last weekend was the first punt return for a touchdown against the Bruins since 1986, when Kwante Hampton of Cal State Long Beach returned one 85 yards. . . Although UCLA had minus-four yards rushing against Stanford, it wasn’t a school record. UCLA set a school record by rushing for minus-37 yards in a 12-7 loss to Syracuse in 1962. The last time the Bruins had negative yards rushing was when they had minus-four yards in a 39-0 loss to Syracuse in 1964. . . . Stanford’s safety against UCLA was the first against the Bruins since 1986, when Washington State did it.
