Oilers ‘Hang On’ for 24-0 Victory Over Ocean View

Huntington Beach scored all of its points in the first half to defeat Ocean View, 24-0, but Coach George Pascoe was disappointed with the Oilers’ second-half play in the Sunset League game Friday at Huntington Beach High.

“I’m happy we won the game, but it wasn’t easy,” he said. “Ocean View played pretty well and they had great execution in the second half.”

In the first half, Huntington Beach (3-3, 2-1 in league) outgained Ocean View (0-6, 0-3), 297 yards to 58. In the second half, Ocean View outgained Huntington Beach, 193 yards to 182, and the Oilers were penalized six times for a loss of 70 yards.

Eric Escobedo led Huntington Beach’s rushing game with 10 carries for 64 yards, including a nine-yard touchdown with 3 minutes 5 seconds left in the first quarter.

Quarterback Jonathan Wimbish completed 18 of 26 attempts for 268 yards, including a touchdown.
