Punk Rocker Speaks
I am writing to let Gloria Walls Seelye (“Bush Versus Ice-T,” Letters, Oct. 11) know that young punk rockers do read your newspaper.
I did not appreciate any of the performers at the concert who stirred up the Ice-T controversy; I believe their music promotes racist and misogynistic behavior. However, I am in full support of the rights for these and other artists to express whatever feelings they have to share with their audience. Rights which conservatives like Bush are trying to suppress with religiously backed fundamentalism. Maybe the Times’ feature of Ice-T was a tad overblown; but then, who’s to say your rival newspaper’s efforts to promote Bush were any more out of line, especially in light of the President’s poor track record on civil rights?
