Man’s Death in Drug Raid

Share

In response to “A Violent Confrontation Ends Man’s Colorful Life,” Oct. 12:

The death of Don Scott hints at police callousness and legal extremism that are truly alarming. There seems to have been a gross lack of accurate information (a tip--a fly-by), and a near fraternity-prank eagerness to employ maximum force with minimum thought. The deputy’s remark about the already dead victim, “He’s busy,” is funny stuff for “Dirty Harry,” but not so funny in real life. This gallows humor trivializes what really happened; a violent death, maybe a tragic mistake, maybe, God help us all, a willful disregard for the sanctity of our own homes.
