Superior Industries Earnings Up 16%

Superior Industries International Inc., a Van Nuys-based maker of aluminum car wheels, reported a 16% increase in earnings on record revenue for its third quarter.
In the three months ended Sept. 30, Superior said it earned $6.2 million, compared with $5.3 million a year earlier. Its sales were up 5% for the period, to $73.4 million from $69.7 million in the previous year.
Louis L. Borick, Superior’s chairman and president, attributed the improved earnings to an ongoing cost-reduction program.
With the latest results, Superior’s earnings for the nine months ended Sept. 30 were up 71%, to $19.4 million from $11.3 million. Through three quarters, sales were up 18% to $232.6 million from $196.3 million a year earlier.
