Kevin Kennedy, a former manager of the Dodgers’ triple-A Albuquerque farm club who moved to the Montreal Expos as director of minor league field operations this year and finished the season as Montreal Manager Felipe Alou’s bench coach, is expected to be named manager of the Texas Rangers when the Series ends.

Steve Greenberg, deputy baseball commissioner, said he is hopeful a timetable will be in place before Thursday’s game here for a decision on the two offers for the San Francisco Giants.

Greenberg said that the ownership committee is still waiting for more paperwork from the group trying to keep the Giants in the Bay Area.

He said, “We’re in uncharted water here with two competing bids from two different cities.”

Relief pitcher Jeff Reardon, stung by Ed Sprague’s game-winning homer in the ninth inning of Game 2, sat on the Atlanta bench before Game 3 and said: “I hope I get in there tonight and face the same guy. That’s what makes a good reliever. When a guy gets you in this game, you want to get him back.”

Instead, Mike Stanton faced Sprague in the ninth inning and walked him intentionally. Reardon then surrendered Candy Maldonado’s game-winning single.
