Mobil Oil’s Pipeline Project in Culver City
We at Mobil want to assure the residents of Culver City that our proposed pipeline, which replaces Mobil’s older existing line, will provide Culver City with the safest and most environmentally sound state-of-the-art pipeline in California. This line is a segment of the 92-mile M-70 pipeline replacement project transporting California crude to Torrance. The new system will use improved technology and inspection devices designed to prevent and detect potential problems.
This project has undergone over 18 months of safety and environmental review by an independent expert, reporting to federal and local agencies, and more than 40 other state, local and federal agencies including Culver City. The state fire marshal, who has the expertise and responsibility for pipeline safety in California, has overseen the entire design process and will continue to oversee the installation and operation of this pipeline.
The pipeline replacement is more than 90% complete, having been approved by the cities of Los Angeles, Torrance, Hawthorne, and Inglewood, as well as the County of Los Angeles and the U.S. Forest Service. We are committed to working with the City Council and the citizens of Culver City to ensure a minimum of inconvenience to residents and businesses. Construction will take six weeks, with no business or residence affected more than one week.
