Nichols Institute: The San Juan Capistrano medical testing and test-kit manufacturer reported that its third-quarter profit dropped to $440,000, or 3 cents a share, from $1.2 million, or 8 cents a share, for the same period a year earlier. Revenue, however, rose 14% to $70.5 million from $62 million. For the nine-month period, the company had a loss of $6.1 million, or 39 cents a share, because of a restructuring charge in the second quarter. For the comparable 1991 period, Nichols reported a profit of $5.5 million, or 37 cents a share. Nine-month revenue this year was up 24% to $213.7 million from $171.7 million.
