NATION IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : Jury Seated in Retrial of Ex-CIA Official
A jury of eight women and four men was selected for the retrial of Clair E. George, a former top CIA official accused of lying to Congress and a grand jury about the Iran-Contra affair. Opening statements will be presented today after U.S. District Judge Royce C. Lamberth reads the seven-count indictment. George has pleaded not guilty. The man who once directed CIA clandestine operations is charged with testifying falsely about his knowledge of key Iran-Contra players: those who sold arms to Iran and ran a military supply operation for the Nicaraguan Contras. The first trial last summer ended with a hung jury.
