PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE NFL : Millard Can’t Play Anymore
The thought of playing with his broken hand in a cast reminded defensive lineman Keith Millard of his previous knee injuries and drove him to retirement.
“I’m not going to play with pain and injuries any more,” he said Friday. “There’s just no way I feel I can play with this injury at the level I need to to perform. If you can’t perform, I don’t believe you should collect your check.”
Millard was with the Minnesota Vikings from 1985-91. He was NFL defensive player of the year in 1989. He had reconstructive knee surgery in 1990 and 1991.
The Green Bay Packers acquired him Oct. 1 after he was waived by Seattle. He broke his right hand in last Sunday’s game against Cleveland.
