Encinitas’ Nielsen Aces Event

Rob Nielsen of Encinitas made a pair of aces Monday at the Peninsula Bank Holiday Bowl Hole in One Golf Tournament at the Stardust Driving Range in Mission Valley.

Nielsen took 15 shots on the specially-constructed 125-yard hole and sank both aces using a wedge.

In doing so, Nielsen won a pair of tickets to anywhere Continental Airlines flies in the continental United States and a round of golf for four at the La Costa Resort and Spa. He also qualified for the final shootout on Nov. 2 for the chance to win $1 million.

The tournament continues through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. It is $1 per shot, no limit. For more information, call 283-5808.

Creighton Aotani of the University of San Diego is tied for 18th at 149 strokes after the first two rounds of the Oregon State Nike Northwest Classic in Corvallis, Ore. Aotani shot rounds of 74 and 75 on the par-72, 6,903-yard Trysting Tree Golf Club course and trails lead Brian Wear of Pacific by 10 strokes heading into today’s final round.

USD is 12th, 45 strokes behind leader Boise State in the team standings.
