Ingram Micro Inc.: The Santa Ana wholesaler of microcomputer products said sales hit a record $674 million for its third quarter, up by a third from $506 million for the same period last year. The privately held concern, which is a unit of Ingram Industries in Nashville, Tenn., does not report its profits. Sales last year were $2 billion. After strong sales in the second quarter this year, demand for the products Ingram wholesales “remained reasonably strong in all market segments” for the third quarter, which ended Sept. 26, the company said. Sales were better in computer hardware than software, Ingram said, because prices for software are falling as publishers compete aggressively.
