SIMI VALLEY : 13% Water Increase Goes Into Effect

Share

About 12,500 Southern California Water Co. customers in Simi Valley and outlying areas were hit with a 13% rate increase effective Monday, largely prompted by higher water prices from the company’s supplier, the Calleguas Municipal Water District.

The rate increase was approved by the state Public Utilities Commission at its Oct. 21 meeting, said Kyle DeVine, commission spokeswoman. The increase will allow the water company to collect an additional $622,071 annually, DeVine said.

“Most of it was for buying water,” she said. “There was a little over $11,000 that was for related expenses, franchise requirements, uncollectibles.”

Water rates will increase by about 16 cents per 100 cubic feet of water. The average residential monthly water bill--based on 2,080 cubic feet of usage--will increase $3.69, from $29.23 to $32.92.
