NEWPORT BEACH : 7 Council Candidates Expected at Forum
A forum for candidates seeking City Council seats in Tuesday’s election will be held tonight at 7 at the council chambers, 3300 Newport Blvd.
The event is sponsored by the West Newport Beach Assn.
All seven candidates vying for three City Council seats are expected to discuss their views on the problems confronting West Newport, the part of town called the “war zone” because of its unruly party atmosphere.
Planning Commissioner Janice A. Debay and account executive Richard Banks are competing for the District 2 West Newport seat. The seat is being vacated by Councilwoman Ruthelyn Plummer, who is not seeking reelection.
In the District 5 Balboa Island area, incumbent Councilwoman Jean H. Watt is facing challengers Richard C. Lewis, a management consultant, and real estate agent Diane Coltrane.
John C. Cox, Jr. has no opponent for the District 7 seat, which includes parts of Corona del Mar, but will participate in the debate.
