BREA : Dunlap Is Chosen to Fill Mayor’s Post

In a 15-minute special meeting, the City Council on Tuesday picked Burnie Dunlap as the new mayor.

Dunlap was the only nominee for the post vacated by Ronald E. Isles, who resigned last week after pleading guilty to seven misdemeanor counts of conflict of interest and failure to disclose his financial holdings.

“I regret that we have to do this under the present circumstances,” Dunlap said. “We need a clear line of succession to fulfill our legal responsibilities.”

Dunlap, who was also chosen chairman of the Redevelopment Agency, will serve as mayor for a little more than a month until a new City Council is seated Dec. 1.

Councilman Glenn G. Parker was chosen mayor pro tem and vice chairman of the Redevelopment Agency.

Dunlap, the former mayor pro tem, usually took over as mayor in Isles’ absence.

At least a dozen residents and city employees attended Tuesday’s special meeting.
