The theft from Channel Islands High School of four computers worth $4,000 has brought the total amount of computer equipment stolen from the school this year to $30,000, officials said.

Burglars broke into two classrooms sometime last weekend by smashing windows, according to police reports.

Vice Principal Wayne Lamas said the school has been hit by burglars numerous times since late summer, losing computer equipment and videocassette recorders. A special committee is working on a better security plan for the school, which is at 1400 Raiders Way.

Earlier this month, a teacher arrived at her portable classroom that had been locked and found 11 pieces of computer equipment missing, including a printer, three monitors, three disk drives and four computer units.

The equipment was taken after a classroom window had been broken, police said.
