CHESS RESULTS : Fischer, Ahead 9-4, Needs 1 Game to Win
American chess star Bobby Fischer moved closer to victory in his $5-million chess match against Boris Spassky of France by winning Game 25 on Wednesday to take a commanding 9-4 lead.
Fischer needs only one more victory to end the match and earn the winner’s share of the prize money--$3.35 million, the largest chess prize ever.
Wednesday’s game in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, was one of Fischer’s best performances in the match. He used an aggressive attack as white against Spassky’s Scheveningen Sicilian Defense.
