Government and civic leaders attended a ceremony Thursday to mark the opening of Kaiser Permanente’s new medical clinic in Thousand Oaks.

The clinic at 365 E. Hillcrest Drive will house about 25 workers, most of whom are being transferred from Kaiser Permanente’s old offices at 1400 W. Hillcrest Drive in Newbury Park, company spokeswoman Pamela Spencer said.

The 23,721-square-foot building is the first office the company has built in Ventura County. It is expected to serve an estimated 145,000 patients in the Ventura County and the west San Fernando Valley area, Spencer said.

Kaiser Permanente has also purchased property in Simi Valley to construct a similar facility. The company currently leases space on Erringer Road.

In addition to opening the building Thursday, Kaiser Permanente officials donated more than $16,000 in grants to five nonprofit agencies working in Ventura County. They are the Conejo Free Clinic, Conejo Valley Senior Concerns, the Conejo Substance Abuse Prevention Authority, AIDS Care and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
