PASADENA : Rose Bowl Additions to Be Modified for Handicapped
Pasadena has agreed to make about $100,000 in modifications to the Rose Bowl’s new press box and luxury suites so that wheelchair-bound viewers and media members will be able to use the entire facility.
California Atty. Gen. Dan Lungren announced the agreement involving the city, an advocacy group for the handicapped and the Tournament of Roses, which administered the construction of the $12.8-million facility.
The agreement ends a federal suit brought by the advocacy group. According to attorneys for the handicapped, the facility offered wheelchair access to only one luxury suite and the shape of furniture in the press area blocked wheelchair-bound reporters.
The city has agreed to build an extra wheelchair lift and to modify the executive boxes and media area in order to accommodate disabled people. There have been designated areas in the grandstands for wheelchairs since the mid 1980s.
