A fifth man was arrested in El Cajon early Friday in connection with the vigilante baseball bat attack on an Alpine migrant encampment Oct. 1.

A criminal complaint was filed against Ronald Inman, 22, on Oct. 15, but he had eluded investigators until Friday, sources said.

El Cajon police arrested Inman in the 700 block of Broadway about 6:50 a.m. after a scuffle, sheriff’s spokesman Dan Greenblat said.

He will be booked on the same charges as four men already in custody in connection with the attack: assault with a deadly weapon, assault with great bodily injury, conspiracy to commit these crimes, and a hate crime.

He also was charged with carrying a concealed weapon--a knife--and resisting arrest, Greenblat said. Inman’s bail has been set at $265,250.

The bat attack, which left three Latino migrants seriously injured, was meant as retaliation for the purported rape of an Alpine woman near the encampment.
